I Will Always Write Back
Caitlin Alifirenka and Martin Ganda
My Rating: 5/5
Caitlin and Martin filled this dual memoir with the story of how they met and grew up together. Martin was just a young boy living in Zimbabwe who received a letter from a girl from America named Caitlin. Exchanging letters describing their wildly different lives, Martin and Caitlin grew fond of each other.
This book is amazing to say the least. I listened to it as an audiobook which I sometimes find hard to stay engaged in, but I found myself itching to keep listening so I could hear what happened. Their story is so unique and almost feels fictional.
Although these are their real lives, I learned from this story that it is important to not take for granted what I have. Hearing about the lives each of these individuals were living at the same time on opposite sides of the world, I was able to align aspects of my own life with Caitlin. Martin had grown up in an undeveloped, war-torn country and hearing about his life, it made me see how fortunate my life has been.
Overall, I think Martin was my favourite character. His personality was always so energetic, thoughtful, and gracious. He lived an inspiring life because of and in spite of all the challenges he had to face.
Everyone should hear their story; I don’t know how this book isn’t one of the most popular books of all time. I persuaded my parents to read it and they both loved it, so hopefully that adds to my credibility and everyone takes their chance to read this memoir.
