The Rose Code
Kate Quinn
My Rating: 6/5
The Rose Code is about the impact women had during World War II. In this historical fiction, the three main characters, Osla, Mab and Beth, work at Bletchley Park and contribute to the success against the Germans in the war. Each character has her own story line, including love, family, drama, and humor. Although the main storyline is during their time at Bletchley Park, the story is continued many years later leading you to wonder how they end up in that specific situation. Not only were they working to crack the enigma in the main plotline but also the code of who got Beth locked up, an interesting way to include the same aspect twice.
I absolutely LOVED the book. Like probably my favourite book ever if I’m being honest. I love historical fiction based around World War II. I love reading about powerful women’s stories. I love love and drama and comic relief. I loved the depth of the story and the complexity of each character. Although the book had three main characters, it was easy to follow and fall in love with every character.
My favourite character was probably Osla. I loved the storyline of her with Prince Philip as I am a sucker for royal family drama. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I also really liked Beth. I wish more people had more faith in her and were less quick to judge.
My least favourite character was definitely Beth’s mom, Mrs. Finch. She was annoying and oblivious to the benefit her daughter was to the war.
If it were up to me, I would get everyone to read this book. More specifically, I recommend it to anyone who likes historical fiction. If you liked the movie/book The Imitation Game, this is a book for you.
